Vocational Training and Rehabilitation for young, vulnerable girls and boys in Kibera
Purchase of equipment and materials for the Living Water Centre in Kibera, January - December 2018
Sister Goretti Njuba reports:
"We feel very happy that we have done something to improve the teaching conditions in the centre. We have used the funds to buy 8 sewing machines, 3 free-standing hair dryers, 2 new sinks with stands and seats, cloth for sewing and tailoring and artificial hair, oil, shampoo and creams for the hair and beauty salon.
We have also made some big savings. We managed to buy 8 sewing machines for the same amount that was meant for 4 machines. Now more students can access the machines at the same time and also handle them manually and electrically. This will help them to fit in the job market depending on what the market requires of them.
We have 42 students, 40 girls and 2 boys, aged between 16 and 20 years. They are learning to work as professionals and, after their final exams, will be able to start earning a living to support their families.
The students and teachers are very happy for the great work that the congregation is doing for the betterment of these vulnerable children. We really appreciate it so much.
The teachers say: "We very much appreciate the wonderful donations which you offered to the centre. The girls and boys are very happy. It has made the training run quickly and smoothly. We are really grateful for your assistance."
